While the day is almost over, it marks the tenth anniversary of my father’s death — Richard Leland Gibson.  For those of you that don’t know, my blog is named in his honor — gibbysgirl.  My boat, which hasn’t seen water in almost five years, is also named after him.  My father was in the Army and all his soldiers called him “Gibby.”  That makes me Gibby’s Girl.  I can’t belive that so much time has gone by since last I talked with him.  He and my husband are the two most amazing men I have ever met.  I am sad that they never got the chance to meet.  Although my father was by no means perfect, he was the best father a daughter could ever have.  He loved his family immeasurably and would have done anything for us.  Were it within his power, I know that he would be here today.  Alas, cancer took him on June 2, 1998 and my life has never been the same.  I would say that his death has been my defining moment.  And while losing my father was incredibly painful (I was a Daddy’s girl), I cannot fathom my life without my mother.  As they say, there’s just something about having your Momma in your life — I think you’re still considered a kid.  

So here’s to my Father and all the other individuals that are apart of the DDC (Dead Dad’s Club).   It’s a lousy group to belong to, but sooner or later everyone is a member.
