Weekend Wrap-Up

Sigh…it’s Sunday night and the beginning of another work week.  I always get anxious on Sunday evenings realizing that I didn’t accomplish half the things I wanted to.  Fridays are filled with such promise and anticipation, while Sundays can be real let-downs.  Chucklebutt doesn’t really understand my melancholy mood, but he knows that I don’t like Sundays.

I did enjoy some good reading this weekend.  On Friday night I did something that I normally don’t do — buy full priced, hard back books.

VastFieldsofOrdinary2009

The author was on NPR last week and the story sounded really good.  I was up until 4am this morning reading it.  If you know any gay adolescents, this is a great recommendation for them — a young, gay man getting ready to go to college, struggling with various relationships and trying to come to terms with his sexuality.  Good stuff.

This one is a little bit above my reading level.  Who am I kidding?  This is way above my reading level but I am interested in the story.   Erin Arveldlund (the author) was also on the radio last week describing an article she wrote for Barrons in 2001, realizing then that something was fishy about Madoff.  I am pretty clueless when it comes to matters of finance (although my checkbook always balances to the penny), but it is really an interesting read.  There have been moments when I’ve completely zoned out — what with all the SEC, AMEX, NMS, and hedge fund talk.  Hedge Fund?!  Every time I hear that word I think of these fellas:

They were in the news this week.  Apparently they were orphaned and vets are using this brush as a surrogate mother.  Hilarious!!

I mentioned in one of my previous post how I am amazed at what people give to GoodWill.  Check out these finds!

The colors aren’t necessarily my thing, but holy cow, the workmanship that went into this.  Can you imagine how much time it took to piece all those pieces?

Here’s a close up to show you how many pieces there are.  How much did I pay?  SIX BUCKS!!  Again, who gives these things away?!?!

The red and blue one are not individual pieces, but I thought I might be able to cut it up and use it in some of my art.  The pink one on top was just too darn precious to pass by.  This piece had me at embroidered farm girl.

On a completely different note, I discovered a dee-licious yogurt this week.

FAGE_HONEY_

This stuff is to die for!  It is called Fage — pronounced fa-yah– and is this amazing Greek yogurt.  It comes with a little packet of honey on the side that you can pour in.  For my Arizona sistahs, you can get it at Sprouts or Trader Joe’s.  My East Coast ladies, I bet any hippie-dippie nature store would carry it.

Another product I’ve become obsessed with is this yummy lip balm.

1111menthalipshine

Santa snuck some of this into my stocking last Christmas and I am just getting around to using it.  It is heavenly!  It makes your lips movie star shiney and tastes just like candy.  I’m always licking my lips.  Chucklebutt thinks it tastes yummy too!  😉

Not too much else going on, except that I am continually having to compete with my kitties for drawer space.  They are pretty pushy!

One of the girls is always lurking in the shadows waiting for me to open a drawer.  As soon as I turn my back — kapow! — they’ve taken over.

That blur in the far left corner is Scooter getting ready to join her sister.

Daisy does not seem to be very impressed with her sister.

Scooter doesn’t seem to be impressed with Daisy’s girth.  Incidentally, Scout is the only one left in our family that is lithe.  The rest of us have gotten chubby with age, but not Scout.  She can be so judgmental.  😀

Finally, I am super excited to be a part of A Fanciful Twist’s Halloween Party.  My mind is reeling with ideas.  Chucklebutt and I have some super fun decorations, and I’m already thinking about what I can bake for the big day.  My residents will be happy for the spooky treats!  Be sure to check back on October 17th for all the festivities.  If you want to join, simply check out the above link and get your “witchy” on.

Have a great week everyone!

Even though I haven’t finished it, Barbarians at the Gate is a good book about leveraged buy-outs and such. It’s specifically about the RJ Reynolds downfall at the hands of Ross Johnson. It was one of the first great golden parachute deals – he bailed and made $100MM and the people who built the company in Winston-Salem lost everything.
Greed truly takes people down. I’m thankful Madoff was sentenced as he was; he’s got a lot to answer for.
    Love you!

We east-coasters can get Fage at Harris Teeter.
