My Nest Is Best

Do you know the classic children’s book The Best Nest?  It was one of my favorite stories growing up.  I loved P.D. Eastman’s illustrations and his sweet, sing-song narrative.

“I love my house.  I love my nest.  In all the world, my nest is best!” sang the little robin.  Alas, his wife was not nearly impressed with her humble abode.  Check out that scowl.  It is a classic tale of the grass is not always greener.  Anyhoo, for those of you that know me, I am a quintessential “nester.”  I don’t need a lot of room, just a few picture frames and some blankets and lace, and viola!  My nest!  Every summer, my family and I would spend a week on the coast of North Carolina.  Before even heading out to the ocean, I would decorate my room with scarves, posters and other precious treasures.  A few years ago, I did an internship with the oh-so-awesome Cornerstone Theatre.  We were doing community based theatre and lived in an elementary school.  Our showers were outdoors and we each had our own camping shower bag.  (If you forgot to leave it out in the sun, you had better be prepared for an ice-cold shower.  Brrrr.)  Anyway, even though I only had a sleeping bag, a few photos and cards and one piece of luggage, I turned my little corner into an oasis away from home.

So I like to nest!  A few weeks ago, the oh-so-sweet Earleen Coburn invited me to her gorgeous home to participate in two of Deb Hodges’ workshops.  Here is my favorite project ever!!

Why yes, those big letters spell “Nest.”

This was a very involved class and Deb was a great instructor.  She is one talented artist and soldered all of our letters and charms.  All the glitter is glass, and I sliced and diced my fingers a few times.  Well worth it!

Thank you Deb for all your patience!  Thank you Earleen for thinking of me and inviting me to your beautiful home.  And of course thank you Chucklebutt for the great pics (and for letting me nest)!

Happy Mother’s Day!
