Check out what I discovered at Joann’s a couple of weeks ago.
Halloween is just around the corner and Chucklebutt and I are throwing a big hoodah for the folks at my work. Last weekend we figured we better give it a test run to see how it turned out.
Chuck was so gracious and offered to help out. The pan came with directions for a pumpkin spice pound cake. It calls for real pumpkin and it took me a while to figure out how to prepare it. After some hemming and hawing, we used the magical “google” to discover that pumpkin actually has to be boiled.
Nifty pan eh?
Yes, there was indeed a lot of fussing and cussing when the cake came out of the oven. Next time, we’re going to use Baker’s Joy. That’s what some of the other bloggers have used. The back side looks perfect, while the front looks more like a zombie than a skull.
Thanks to Chuck’s patience and my icing, we were able to repair him.
Not too shabby! Well actually it is a bit shabby, but that makes it perfect. 😀
The fun part was decorating it. I have never really decorated a cake before, and after this adventure, I realize that I desperately need to take a class.
Chuck did the black icing because I had lost my patience after applying all the white. It’s a good thing he has such a level head, otherwise I would have smashed the skull to smithereens since it was aggravating me so much.
And of course, the best part of the whole process?
Eating it! The cake was sooo good! I used store bought icing for the trial run, but I may make buttercream for the party. It will depend on allotted time.
Thank you Chuck for helping with the cake. We make a good team!
