Surprise Publishing and Shabby Chandelier

I was delightfully surprised a week ago when I called Mystic Paper to confirm my class schedule and Kim proceeded to tell me she was looking at my art work in Somerset.  I was totally confused and thought she was referring to my Halloween Book.  I’m sure she thought I was a complete dingbat, but eventually we figured out that my advent calander had been published, but the folks at Somerset had failed to let me know.  Talk about total shock.  I was floating on cloud nine.

A whole page!  I feel so special.

I need to give the folks at the UPS store a copy.  Everything is attached to the box, and they did a rockin’ job of shipping it.  Thanks Kim for letting me know!  I would have no idea until I got around to buying the issue.

Last Saturday I took an amazing class with Chris Randall.  She taught us how to make tea cup chandeliers.  It was super fun and I am already planning to make more for Christmas gifts.  I also got to meet the incredible Maija of Maigirlz Madness.  I love her blog and it was great sharing a soldering iron with her!  Check out my masterpiece.

I bought all the teacups either at Goodwill or the antique store and paid a mere pittance for them.  The chandelier I purchased at a Flea Market for seven bucks!  Chris provided all the fun crystals.

My favorite part was making charms.  I am completely addicted to soldering.  The possibilities are endless.  It’s a bit overwhelming.  Anyway, I downloaded a whole bunch of fairy images from online and created four charms.  I think it needs more and hopefully when I get a bit more time I will add them.

This is my favorite tea cup.  The one in the background is Chuck’s.

It’s hard to get a picture of the whole chandelier, but you get the idea.  It is my first step in turning our Living Room into a Shabby Chic Haven.  Little does Chucklebutt know.  Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

The weekend is over — boy it goes so fast!  Chuck has another show opening this week and I am busy working on my own two shows.  Mom comes to visit on the 20th and we have a ton of stuff to do before she gets here.  Wish us luck.  Happy Monday!

Happy Halloween!

So another Halloween has come and gone in the desert and we still didn’t put our decorations up.  I think the 95 degree weather put a bit of a damper on things.  It’s hard to get in the autumn spirit when you’re sweating to death.  Chucklebutt misses Asheville and so do I.  Mom says the weather has been in the thirties at night.  I’m so jealous!

Yesterday we had our Halloween Party at Oasis.  All the folks put on their best spooky garb and we had a grand ole time.  Chuck was a peach and came over to take pictures.

This is Lucille and she is a riot!  She makes all her own clothes and made this costume.  You can’t tell from this picture, but she is playing a pregnant woman.

This is Vera and Faye.  They came with Lucille and Vera is playing one of two twins.  Faye is their nursemaid.

Martha is playing the other twin.  They won the funniest costume contest.

This is Mary and she is so fun.  She is a retired French teacher and has lived all over the world.  Mary is the one who turned me on to Turkey.  When I win the lottery, I’m going.  They offer an amazing tour,
but it’s a 30 day excursion.  You can just imagine how expensive it is.

This is me and Iola.  I have a real special place in my heart for Iola.  She was born in North Carolina although spent most of her time in Philly.  She is awesome.

This is sassy Grace leading our cake walk and in the foreground is another woman who holds a special place in my heart.  Her name is Pat and she has just discovered my blog.  Hi Pat!  She now knows all my secrets.  🙂  Pat’s from the Indiana/Kentucky border and has a great southern accent.  When I’m with her, I forget I’m in the desert and I feel a little closer to home.

Who are these sassy women you may ask?  The woman with the big "dinners" is Vanessa — my boss.  (Did you like the Clyde Edgerton reference?)  Grace is in the middle, and I’m the crazy angel/fairy.

Aren’t her bloomers adorable?

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy Halloween.  Chuck has been working like a dog all weekend and I have been hitting the thrift stores with great success.  Hopefully tomorrow we will get busy painting our bedroom so Mom doesn’t keep bugging us about it.

Hugs to Everyone!
