Lazy Sunday Mornings

Sunday mornings are made for strawberries and cream and cruising yummy blogs. It’s been a while since I’ve read other folks’ blogs, and I enjoyed catching up this morning. I also discovered a few new ones that I’ve added to my favorites. Be sure to check out artsymama and hophopjingleboo.  They both have great eye candy.

Last night, Chuck and I went to a potluck dinner where I work.  For those of you that don’t know, I am an activity director for an independent living facility.  I love my work and have a blast hanging out with the residents.  They also love Chuck and having him around.

Here are some of the ladies and me.

Most of you know that last week I went to visit my mother in North Carolina and attend my best friend’s graduation.  Despite the crazy weather (wind storms, rain, humidity, tornadoes), it was a great time.  Christine made a fantastic graduate even though I couldn’t get her in focus to save my life.  Where is Chucklebutt when you need him?  At home working.

I also took some video.  Let’s hope it uploads.  Nope.  No such luck.  Anyway, her mom threw a great after party and it was good catching up with old friends.  I left a little before the party was over and took a nap with Christine’s precious pup — Skittles.  Later we had a photo shoot.

She is such a sweet dog and is a great cuddler.

Awwwww.  We are too cute — Auntie Nicole and Skittles.

Mom and I drove back to Asheville on Mother’s Day in some crazy wind.  While I drove, Mom opened her gifts.  She has always loved things with an Asian influence, so I decided to make her a geisha book.  I found the photos online and copied them to fabric paper.  This is the first big project that I’ve utilized my sewing machine.  It gave me a very powerful feeling.  The possibilities are limitless.  I’m a bit overwhelmed with all that I can do with it.  I used an old Thomas the Train board book and covered the pages with beautiful art papers — I’m a recycling junky.

I love the fans on the front.  I had no idea they would turn out so well.

Happy Sunday!  I hope everyone gets to do something fun with their families.

Pretty Pics

Here are the photos of my Tim Holtz project as well as some still life photos that Chucklebutt shot for me.  My project  is titled “Laughing and happy on the restless deep.”  That is the text across the skeleton.

Making this shadow box was super fun.  We were given a plain wooden box and then beaucoup embellishments.  During this project, I discovered the joys of alcohol inks.  Oh my gosh!  They are so amazing and will paint anything!  The feet of the box, the wings, the skeleton and even the die are all colored by alcohol inks.

We were given the choice to utilize a skeleton or a bird.  Originally I thought I wanted to make this sweet bird scenario, however after seeing the skeleton, I knew that Chuck would appreciate the macabre much more.  It now sits on his dresser.

Oh yeah, and it lights up!  I love the bottles of “poison.”  The magnifying glass is for the old filmstrip on the right.

I love this photo.  I found all the items recently either at Goodwill or at Merchant Square in Chandler.  The booties are especially precious!

I am obsessed with buttons.  I don’t think you can ever have too many.  Since I’ve finally gotten my sewing machine up and running, I need to start incorporating all my buttons into my art.

Another pretty set of booties.  I found all the lace at the Antique Trove in Scottsdale.  I am also a fanatic for vintage lace.  I have so many visions and now I just need the time to see them to fruition.

On a photographic note, Chuck has been working for the Apache Junction/Gold Canyon Independent Newspaper as a correspondent.  I am so very proud of him.  He actually had a picture on the front page last week.  Next stop — The New York Times!
