Mardi Gras Madness

Happy Mardi Gras Everyone!   Most of you know that I have started a new job at an independent living facility for senior adults.  I love it and feel I am back in my element.  This morning we had a Mardi Gras social and Chef Chucklebutt made a tradtional King Cake.  I asked him to start it in the afternoon and I would finish it once I got home from teaching.  Well, being the engineer that he is, he wouldn’t let me touch it.  He was in the zone and a baker man!  He had a few choice words for my organizational skills — apparently he couldn’t find some things in the kitchen.  I told him I had no trouble finding things and if he visited the kitchen more often he wouldn’t be so lost.  (tee hee)

This pic is a little dark, but I love the look he’s giving the camera.  Be sure to notice Remey chilling in the background.

Yummy cream cheese filling.

The ladies where I worked thought it was delicious!   They were all very impressed with his baking abilities.

Last week was a good week for thrift shopping.  I love GoodWill and I found some really neat treasures.    Check them out!

Michael’s scrapbook store closed it’s doors last Saturday.  Apparently they have been going out of business since December.  I stopped by on Friday and everything was pretty much gone.  I did manage to find a few things. I got a fifty dollar roll of twill ribbon for a buck!  Gosh I love a deal!   I was happy to find the circus stamp.  I keep wanting to do a circus themed book.  It’s all a matter of time.

I was lucky to find a brand new Jelly Belly bean dispenser for next to nothing.  I gave it to Chuck since he loves beans.  I also found a whole bunch of decorative scissors, a pretty skirt, and a gorgeous glass house planter.  I am going to turn it into a fairy house.  I also found a candy dish that matches my mother’s and two mugs similar to what my Aunt Fee used to make.  Oh yeah, and the 2nd book in the Spiderwick Chronicles.

As I’ve mentioned before, I love children’s books and their are certain illustrators I simply cannot resist.  The one in the middle is illustrated by Tomi DePaola.  By luck, this particular book happens to by autographed by the author –Antonio Hernandez Madrigal.  The witch book (the one with the glare) is illustrated by Graham Philpot.  He does these amazingly detailed pictures.  They are great bathroom books — you could spend hours looking at all the details.  The last book is illustrated by Mordicai Gerstein (don’t you love that name?).

Some paperbacks that I got at GoodWill.

I got this frame for a dollar at Ross.  SPOILER ALERT!!! I altered it for my mother and plan to send it to her soon.

And finally, my first ATC (although not the proper size). . .

Ta for now.
